Bicycles to Change the World
"I thought of that while riding my bicycle."
-Albert Einstein on his theory of Relativity
You can use a bicycle to go the store. You can use a bicycle to get to work. You can use a bicycle to stay in shape. You can use a bicycle to do all these things and more, but did you ever think you could use a bicycle change the world? Well, you can. The goal of the Cycle South Expedition is to provide a platform to engage followers in a wide variety of bicycle-centered advocacy projects and inspire action.
You can use a bicycle to help stop climate change
Did you know that 40% of all urban travel in the US happens within 2 miles of where people live? Nearly all of that travel is by car! Realizing the great opportunity to help fight climate change, CLIF BAR created a game to see how many car trips could be replaced with a bike instead. It's called the 2 Mile Challenge. All you have to do is register and start pedaling your bike to move the goodness forward. Register here: http://2milechallenge.com/
You can use a bicycle improve the lives of poor families in developing nations.
Over a billion people worldwide lack adequate access to transport. Most live in rural areas cut off from markets, clinics and schools. Worldbike was founded ten years ago as an organization focused on designing innovative bicycle prototypes to advance development in poor countries. Since then, their work has led to new bike technologies used in small-scale development programs in Cuba, Mexico, Rwanda, Senegal and Thailand. By supporting WorldBike, you are helping provide poor families in rural parts of the developing world access to markets, clinics and schools. Donate here: http://worldbike.org/donate

You can use a bicycle to protect our winter wild lands.
Winter Wildlands Alliance is a national nonprofit organization promoting and preserving winter wildlands and a quality human-powered snowsports experience on public lands. As activists, WWA builds relationships with grassroots snowsports and conservation groups, providing networking opportunities and useful resources. The Alliance publicizes national issues and maintains a national presence by communicating regularly with Forest Service, Park Service, and Congressional representatives, commenting on draft plans and encouraging agencies to adopt nonmotorized-friendly policies. You can use a bicycle to improve bike safety and commuting routes.
The Bikes Belong Foundation was created to build mutual respect among motorists and cyclists. Their goal is to slow traffic and to provide safe places to ride while building communities where people of all ages can enjoy bicycling without fear. These issues affect health, safety, and quality of life. The Bikes Belong Foundation's Green Lane Project is a new effort that works closely with six U.S. cities to help them build world-class cycling networks on city streets. These cities are poised to make significant progress over the next two years in installing cycle tracks and related improvements.
